ARE THEY AWARE THEY ARE DRUNK?
Try to have a quiet word if you recognise the signs that a friend is over the limit. If they're not the type of person you can approach easily in this type of situation then maybe suggest they change their drink, have a soft drink or suggest going for a bite to eat.
OFFER TO TAKE THEM HOME SAFELY
The party has to come to a close at some stage - whether your mate has seen reason, or you've nowhere else to keep drinking. Whatever the case, don't let them stumble off alone. Stick together if walking, keep to well lit areas and avoid large rowdy gangs on the streets.
TAXI HOME?
Just consider whether walking back is safe. When getting a taxi, make sure the window is open and be prepared to ask them to stop in a hurry if it looks like they're about to redecorate the interior! Taxi drivers don't take too kindly to this and often fine drunken passengers who vomit.
DEALING WITH A DRUNKEN MATE EMERGENCY
Different factors affect the impact of alcohol on an individual. Everything from how much they've drunk to when they last ate. Their physical shape and health can also play a role which means the effects from boozing can sometimes take people by surprise.
Vomiting, fainting and loss of consciousness are all associated with alcohol misuse. If you're really worried about a mate who has drunk too much and has collapsed, call an ambulance immediately. It might save a life and you won't get into trouble.
